Best free video analysis software (2026): 6 tools compared
Updated 7 November 2026 · Free plans, limits and prices checked on each vendor's site
The best free video analysis software in 2026 is Kinovea for technique analysis on a Windows PC, and Enlyo, which we make, for team matches: tag the match in one watch in your browser, and every player has seen the moments that matter by the next training. Enlyo's free plan is the whole product with no end date: summaries, reviews in your own voice, several camera angles and a channel per squad, with 10 GB of storage, 720p playback and 50 GB of viewing a month. LongoMatch and Metrica Sports have capped free plans, and Once and Coach Logic offer trials only. We say where each one is the better choice.
Best free sports video analysis software, by need
- For technique and individual sports: Kinovea. Completely free and open source. Measure angles and distances, compare two performances side by side. Windows only.
- For team matches, from the first tag to the players' phones: Enlyo (that's us). Tag in one watch, turn ninety minutes into four, talk a player through it on webcam, and send it to the squad. All on the free plan. See what Free includes.
- For free statistics on a few matches: LongoMatch Basic. Free forever, with player and zone stats, capped at 5 projects and 50 events each.
- For drawing on the picture, with tracking to grow into: Metrica PlayBase. A permanent free plan after a 7-day trial, with 4 codes at once and 50 drawings a month; tracking is paid.
- For 3D drawing, tracking and live analysis: Once. No free plan; a 14-day trial of its top edition. Live analysis needs Pro or Elite.
- For a team feed with comments and phone apps: Coach Logic. No free plan; a trial on request.
Using one of these? What you run into, and where Enlyo fits
- Kinovea: You use Kinovea to study technique on a Windows PC; you run into a full match: no buttons to tag it, and clips reach players only as files you send yourself. In Enlyo you open the match in any browser, Mac included, tag it in one watch with your sport's buttons, and copy the clips to the squad's channel: every player gets a notification and an email.
- LongoMatch Basic: You use LongoMatch Basic on the computer it's installed on; you run into 50 events per project, and players get only the video files you export. In Enlyo the match is online, open on any computer; tag all ninety minutes, since bookmarks aren't counted, and a link plays on any phone without an account.
- Metrica: You use Metrica to draw on the picture and track players; you run into getting it to the squad: clips leave as exported files, and Metrica describes no share links or player accounts. In Enlyo you copy the clips to the squad's channel and each player gets a notification and an email; for the whole match, click the bookmarks onto a timeline and send four minutes instead of ninety.
- Once: You use Once for 3D drawing on the computer its licence is on; you run into sharing, which is one joined video by a link that lasts 14 days. In Enlyo each clip stays in the squad's channel, with no link to run out, and a dot shows each player what they haven't opened yet.
- Coach Logic: You use Coach Logic's team feed, online too; you run into the tagging: there are no ready-made events per sport, so you make your own or import last match's, and voice notes are audio only. In Enlyo your sport's buttons are ready at sign-up, one key each, and a review shows you on webcam, talking and pointing with the laser pointer.

Kinovea: the free pick for technique analysis
Made by Joan Charmant and contributors (open source). Typical users: technique coaches, sports scientists, physios and researchers.
What is Kinovea?
Kinovea is a free, open-source Windows program for studying movement: capture it, slow it down, compare it, draw on it and measure it. It has been developed since 2004.
Key features
- Distance, angle, goniometer, stopwatch and counter tools on a calibrated grid, with lens correction.
- Frame-by-frame stepping, and two videos side by side or overlaid, synced on a chosen moment.
- Live capture from webcams, USB, IP and machine-vision cameras, with a delayed view.
What "free" means
Everything. One edition, no registration, no time limit, free for any use. The catch is the computer: Kinovea needs Windows 7 to 11 on a 64-bit Intel or AMD PC, and doesn't run on Apple Silicon Macs, not even in Parallels.
Looking for a Kinovea alternative on a Mac? Enlyo opens in any browser or its Mac app, and the footage stays online. Slow motion and frame-by-frame stepping are in the player; for measuring angles, stay with Kinovea.

Enlyo facts come from our product documentation.
Why do coaches use Kinovea?
Serious motion analysis for nothing, offline. Its features page lists tools for sport, bike fitting and archery.
Bottom line
For measuring a jump, a swing or a stroke on a Windows PC, Kinovea is the clear free choice. It isn't built for getting a team's clips to the players.
Enlyo (that's us): the free pick for team matches, tagged and shared
Made by Enlyo B.V. in the Netherlands. Typical users: coaches and staff of team sports clubs, from youth teams to senior squads.
What is Enlyo?
Enlyo is video analysis software for coaches that lives online. Film the match, and by the next training every player has seen the moments that matter, with your explanation. Upload once and open it in any browser; the desktop app for Mac and Windows is optional.
Key features
- Tagging in one watch. Your sport's buttons are ready at sign-up, one key each. A press covers 15 seconds before and 5 after by default, so a late reaction still catches the moment.
- Several camera angles. Add each camera's recording to the match; they play in sync, and 1, 2, 3 switch between them. Bookmarks and clips keep every angle.
- Summaries: from ninety minutes to four. Click bookmarks onto a timeline, reorder them, trim each against a filmstrip, pick the angle for each segment, and watch the preview before you create it.
- Reviews in your own voice. Press record, talk over the play on webcam and point with the laser pointer. Stop, and it's ready to share.
- Channels: one per squad, a staff room for scouting, your own library and a shared-with-me inbox, each with its own roles. A dot marks what each member hasn't opened yet.
A match in Enlyo, step by step
- Upload the match in your browser. Watch and tag it from the copy on your computer while the upload runs.
- In football, press G when your team scores, Shift + G when they concede. The video keeps playing.
- Click the goals and turnovers onto a summary's timeline and watch the preview.
- Pause on the second goal, press Alt + R, and talk the back line through it, pointing at the gap with the laser pointer.
- Save both to your own channel, then copy them to the squad's channel: every player gets a notification and an email, and opens it on their phone.
Videos, clips, reviews and summaries all play in the same player, with the same keys.
What "free" means
Everything above is on the free plan, which is why Enlyo is on this page. Every workspace starts on Free, a plan, not a trial, with no end date. Any number of coaches can join, and players never pay. Free has 10 GB of storage, about two full matches: this week's match and next week's opponent, not a season's archive. It plays and downloads in 720p, with 50 GB of viewing a month. All the limits of Free. Of the six tools on this page, only Enlyo has sharing with players built into a free plan: a channel per squad, and links that play on any phone without an account. Each tool's grid shows where it's ahead.
Why do coaches use Enlyo?
To show players what they saw. "With Enlyo we go back to the exact moment and show a player what we mean, so they know what to work on next session," says Floris de Ridder of De Ridder Hockeykampen.
Bottom line
If you coach a team and want the match tagged, cut down and explained to the players in your own voice, Enlyo's free plan does all of it. If you need statistics, drawings that stay on the clip, live capture, offline work or measuring, look at the other tools on this page.
LongoMatch: the free plan for statistics on a few matches
Made by Fluendo VAS S.L. in Spain. Typical users: coaches and analysts who tag on one computer.
What is LongoMatch?
LongoMatch is desktop software for Windows and macOS for tagging live or recorded matches with your own dashboards, then reading the stats by player and pitch area.
Key features
- Custom tagging dashboards, with players and pitch zones on each event (one dashboard on Basic, any number from Starter).
- Statistics by pitch area and player, with percentages.
- Up to four camera angles, HDMI and IP cameras, Sportscode XML and Excel export, all on Pro.
What "free" means
LongoMatch Basic is free with no time limit, including live tagging from a webcam, but capped: 5 projects, 2 teams, 1 dashboard and 50 events per project, with a watermark its plan table lists as non-removable. Starter costs €15 a month or €150 a year, and Pro €55 or €550, each per computer.
Need camera angles or tag export? Both are Pro only in LongoMatch, and on Enlyo Free.

Paid PlayBase plans cost €10, €30 or €80 a month, per device.

How we compared
We read each vendor's own site, plan pages and help centre on 6 and 7 November 2026, and link them in every grid. Where a vendor doesn't document a feature, we left the row out. Enlyo facts come from our documentation and code; user numbers are vendors' own claims. Nacsport alternatives and our other comparisons follow the same rules.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best free video analysis software? It depends on the job. Kinovea is completely free for technique analysis on Windows; Enlyo's free plan (we make Enlyo) has every feature and no end date, within 10 GB of storage and 720p playback, for tagging team matches and getting them to players. LongoMatch Basic is capped at 5 projects of 50 events and Metrica's free plan at 4 codes at once; Once and Coach Logic offer trials only.
Is there free sports video analysis software for Mac? Yes. Enlyo runs in the browser on a Mac and has a desktop app for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. LongoMatch Basic and Metrica's free PlayBase plan also run on a Mac. Kinovea needs Windows and won't run on Apple Silicon Macs, even in Parallels.
Is Kinovea free? Yes, completely: open source under GPL v2, free for any use, with no registration. It runs on Windows 7 to 11 only.
What's a good Kinovea alternative for Mac or for a team? Enlyo, which we make: free, in the browser or its Mac app, with buttons for about 40 sports, and the squad watches in its own channel. It slows down and steps frame by frame, but doesn't measure angles; for that, nothing on this list replaces Kinovea.
Is LongoMatch free? LongoMatch Basic is free with no time limit, capped at 5 projects and 50 events per project, with a watermark.
Is Metrica Sports free? Partly. After a 7-day trial you keep a free PlayBase plan, with coding limited to 4 codes used at once, 50 drawings a month and no tracking.
Is Once Sport free? No. Once Sport Analyser has a 14-day free trial, then costs from €108 a year per computer, excluding tax. Its Coach Board Basic tactics board is free.
Is Coach Logic free? No, only a trial on request. Teams plans cost £385, £825 or £1,195 a year per team, plus UK VAT.
Can I share video clips with players for free? In Enlyo, yes: sharing is in the free plan, and a public link plays in any browser without an account (how to share clips with players). Kinovea and LongoMatch Basic share exported files you send yourself. Once shares one joined video by link, live for 14 days.
Is there a free video analysis app for coaches? Enlyo is free and runs in the browser, and players watch what you share in their phone's browser. Kinovea, LongoMatch, Metrica and Once are desktop programs with no phone app for players. Coach Logic has iOS and Android apps, but no free plan.
Is there free video analysis software for football, hockey or volleyball? Enlyo has starter buttons for about 40 sports on the free plan, including football, field hockey, volleyball, basketball and rugby. LongoMatch comes with a football dashboard; for other sports you build your own.
Is there free video analysis software to download? Kinovea is a free Windows download, and LongoMatch Basic downloads free for Windows and macOS. Enlyo needs no download: it runs in the browser, with an optional desktop app for Mac and Windows.
Is Enlyo right for you?
We think Enlyo is the right free choice if:
- you coach a team and want the match tagged in one watch and on your players' phones before training;
- you want to explain a play in your own voice, not in a group chat;
- you film from more than one camera and want to switch with a key;
- you want every coach on the staff in, from any computer, with nothing to install.
See how to tag a match and every feature.
Kinovea, LongoMatch, Metrica Sports, Once Sport and Coach Logic are trademarks of their owners. Prices and features change; check the vendor's site before you choose.
